A Collaboration Between Two Strangers
In the fall of 2020, when we were home-bound, isolated, and fearful, Michael Craig Palmer photographed the glorious fall shades of trees and leaves in and around the Hudson Valley. Later, Michael approached me about finding words for his photographs. This resulted in Autumn in a Solitary Time, the Hudson Valley 2020, a celebration of the astonishing and enduring beauty of nature, as well as a celebration of connection in a solitary time. In a sense, the poems are in conversation with the photographs, as is the poet with the artist. Michael and I wondered if the fall colors were more beautiful in that first pandemic year, or did they just seem that way? Now they had our attention!
